Dr. Borges is graduated from the Faculdade de Farmácia (Pharmacy College) at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) in 2004, completed a Master's degree in natural products chemistry in 2006, and received his Ph.D. in natural products chemistry in 2010 from the Walter Mors Institute of Research on Natural Products at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Currently, he is a professor at the Instituto de Pesquisas de Produtos Naturais Walter Mors (IPPN) at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Ricardo is actively involved in research, particularly in the area of Analytical Phytochemistry, focusing on the development of analytical methodologies for determining metabolic profiles of samples from the national biodiversity, whether native or exotic. His research is centered around the development and application of analytical methodologies for analyzing compounds in mixtures using databases, prior knowledge, MS, and NMR.

Susan graduated from University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2019 with a Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD). This is when she gained interest in lichens and chose to pursue that for her PhD. Susan is currently finishing up her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Manitoba. In addition to being active in lichen natural products, Susan does additional research in pharmacy areas.

Jordan received his PhD of Plant Science from City University of New York in 2021 and is now currently an Assistant Professor of Biology at Eugene Lang College in New York. Jordan's lab  revolves around better understanding the diversity, community composition, genetic variation and conservation of lichens in our environment. Lichens are complicated lifeforms, made up of multiple species instead of just one.  He is particularly interested in studying the communities inside of lichens - especially the understudied animals like tardigrades and rotifers.

Jiyeon (or also spelt as Ji-yeon) received her Ph.D. degree from Seoul National University's College of Pharmacy in 2021. My major was natural products chemistry, and my research focused on discovering new bioactive secondary metabolites from marine-derived fungi. In 2022, I joined the Molecular Targets Program at the National Cancer Institute as a postdoctoral fellow in the Natural Products Chemistry Section. Currently, I am working with staff scientist Lin Du, Ph.D as a Post-Doctoral Fellow. My research aims to isolate and identify bioactive natural products from marine, fungi, and plant sources with novel structures and unique modes of action that target cancer, using a combined approach that integrates bioassay-guided fractionation and modern metabolomic methodologies.
